There’s An App For That: Ski Apps

Want to make this ski season the best one yet? There’s an app for that.  From live snow reports to social networking with fellow skiers, there are plenty of ski apps out there to better your experience on the mountain. It can actually get a bit tedious searching through them to find which ones are worth downloading.  So, we decided to share with you our five favorite apps to help optimize your time on the slopes.

1. Ski & Snow Report – by Skireport.com
This ski app is a must-download if you enjoy being the first one on the mountain on a powder day.  You can set the app to give you alerts when your ski resorts get new snow so that you can get up on the slopes as fast as possible to get first tracks.  Another feature that we like about Ski & Snow Report is that they update you on how many of the lifts are running in real time, so you always know what to expect before you head to the mountains.  There are also tons of other useful tools on this app like maps, gear reviews, news in the ski industry, and more. If you only download one app for the ski season, this would be a good choice.

2. Snocru – by Snocru LLC
Snocru is a great social/ski app for skiers and boarders. It allows you to connect with other riders using the app on the same mountain as you. You can also connect with your friends to see where they are skiing and compare stats. We like this app because it brings a social experience to the mountain, along with other tracking and resort information features. They are aslo based out of Utah, which makes us like them even more.

3. Ski Tracks – by Core Coders Ltd

This is the best app you will find to track your day on the slopes.  It measures everything from elevation to speed. All you need to do is press the record button at the beginning of the day, put your phone in your pocket, and the app will do the rest.  You don’t even need to have cellular service for it to be able to track where you go.  It is definitely the best app out there if you want to see how much you can get done in a day on the mountain!

4. GoPro App – by GoPro Inc
It is 2014, and everyone has a GoPro on the mountain. Make sure that you are getting the best footage possible by using the GoPro app.  The app allows you to use your phone as a viewfinder for the camera, which can be useful when trying to get that perfect shot of you hucking a big cliff, or of your daughter taking her first run down the mountain. You can also use the WiFi connection to upload your photos or videos instantly to your phone so that you can share your footage with your friends and family.

5. Ski Utah – by Ski Utah
This one is for the locals…and tourists!  SkiUtah has a great app that keeps you updated on the snow fall, road conditions, and other news here in Utah.  It is also great for finding local deals and events. A must-download if you are ever skiing in Utah.
