FIS World Cup in Deer Valley

Things are getting exciting up at Deer Valley this weekend as they kick off the FIS World Cup. The best freestyle athletes in the world have gathered in Park City to compete in the Freestyle Aerials and Moguls competition. Athletes compete on the same runs that were used in the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics. This is Deer Valley’s 16th year of hosting international freestyle skiing events, so it is not there first rodeo. They know how to put on a good show.
Things got started last night with the Aerials competition. There were flips, spins, big air, and of course a lot of crashing that went down. In the end, it was exciting to see three Americans finish on the podium. Ashley Caldwell and Kiley Mckinnon taking 1st and 2nd in the Ladies’ Aerials, and Mac Bohonnon taking 2nd in the Mens Aerials.

The World Cup continues through the weekend with the Moguls competition tonight and the Dual Moguls completion Saturday night. The events take place under the lights on Champion Ski Run up at Deer Valley. Make sure to check it out. It is free for the public to come watch and a great family activity to get the kids stoked about skiing! And don’t forget to stay for the fireworks every night after the awards! Check out the full schedule here, and see what it is like in this video Deer Valley made from last year’s World Cup.
