Vail Announces Big Upgrades for Park City and Canyons Resorts

We have been expecting to hear news from Vail for quite some time now concerning the changes that will occur due to their recent aquisition of Park City Mountain Resort. This week, Vail announced their plans to combine PCMR and Canyons to make the biggest resort in the United States! This plan includes $50 million in resort renovations and improvements. The following improvements will take place in 2015:

  1. 1. The Interconnect Gondola – The biggest change of all will be this will be an eight-passenger, high-speed gondola that will connect PCMR and Canyons. This gondola will allow skiers and boarders to go from PCMR’s Silverlode Lift to Canyons’ Flatiron Lift.
  2. 2. Upgrade PCMR’s lifts – Vail plans to upgrade King Con from a 4-person to a 6-person high-speed lift. They also plan to upgrade Motherlode from a 3-person lift to a 4-person high-speed lift.
  3. 3. Restaurant Renovations – Vail will be adding a new restaurant to PCMR at the base of the Interconnect Gondola. This top-of-the-line restaurant will seat 500 guests. In addition they plan to upgrade Summit House and Red Pine Restaurant to seat more people and better serve their guests.
  4. 4. Snowmaking and Other Improvements – Lastly, they plan to increase their snowmaking and widen some of the trails to compensate for increased skier traffic. In addition, they will be spending $5 million on other maintenance projects at PCMR
What does this mean for skiers?

These are huge changes and big improvements for both resorts! As a ski community, we can’t wait to see these plans take effect. These changes mean more areas to ski, more lodging options, better restaurant service, less lift time and all around a better skiing experience! We couldn’t be more excited about this announcement.
