Park City Mountain Resort Anniversary

There’s Gold… Silver… and Snow… in them thar hills!

The 2013-2014 season marks the 50th anniversary for Park City Mountain Resort, a resort that sprang up as the town’s mainstay – silver mining – began to fall. The resort is highlighting some of its richest stories of boom, to bust, to boom again. The history includes tales of the first “ski lift” in 1963 that took skiers through an underground mine shaft to a hoist that raised them more than 1400 feet to reach the mountain. As the town neared ghost town status, some scoffed at those who, in the 1970s, predicted skiing to be the main draw for the town one day. One day came quickly, as did the thousands of skiers and snowboarders who can’t miss a season on the mountains of Park City. Now Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley, and Canyons Resort have all made various lists of the top 10 in North America over the last decade.
