The history of skiing dates back as far as the need to travel across snowy terrain. However, it wasn’t until the 1800s that skiing became recreational. Many towns, like Park City, Utah rallied back from the brink of becoming a post-mining ghost town thanks to the sport of skiing.
Park City Mountain Resort will host the sixth annual celebration of Skiing History Week the end of the month. PCMR’s 50th anniversary season sets up an extra special backdrop for this year’s event, titled “Treasuring 50 Years of Snow, Fun, and Memories”. The 13-14 season also marks the 40th anniversary for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team to call Park City home.
In addition to the anniversary celebrations, the International Skiing History Association and U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame (HALL) will present a HALL induction ceremony, film festival, ski history book and film awards, and a “Freestyle Skiing Through the Years” exhibition.
